A region celebrates
In 2022, the Weilheim-Schongau district celebrated its 50th anniversary. As part of the 1972 administrative reform, the previously independent districts of Weilheim and Schongau were merged—a decision that was considered a "marriage of convenience" at the time, but which developed over the decades into a strong and vibrant community.
Special exhibition in the Radom Raisting
A central part of the anniversary celebrations was the special exhibition “50 Years of the Weilheim-Schongau District”, which was presented at the Raisting Radom. This exhibition offered visitors a comprehensive insight into the history and development of the district. In addition to historical exhibits and documents, stories of personalities from the region who have shaped the past five decades were presented.
The Raisting Radom as a venue
The Raisting Radom, a significant industrial monument and landmark of the region, provided the perfect backdrop for this exhibition. Originally built as an earth station for satellite communications, the radom played a crucial role in the worldwide live broadcast of the 1972 Munich Olympic Games. Today, it serves as a technology museum and venue for cultural events and was used as the central location for the anniversary.
Insight into the exhibition
The exhibition was open to visitors until October 30, 2022. On weekends, visitors could visit the radome and the exhibition free of charge. Guided tours were offered for groups by prior appointment, led by Radom Raisting GmbH and the Pfaffenwinkler cultural guides. Visitors could learn about the changes of the past 50 years, trace the district's challenges and successes, and participate in interactive stations.
A look into the future
The celebrations and the exhibition at the Raisting Radom offered the district's residents an excellent opportunity to reflect on their shared history and honor the achievements of the past 50 years. At the same time, they looked to the future: What developments lie ahead for the region? How can the district continue to grow sustainably and preserve its identity? The anniversary was more than just a look back—it was a sign of solidarity and a shared vision for the coming decades.
