We don't offer any catering directly at the Radom, but there are numerous restaurants and cafés nearby that you can enjoy before or after your visit. Our on-site team is happy to provide tips and recommendations.

When was the radome built?

The German Federal Post Office and its international partners began planning in 1961. Construction work on the Raisting earth station began in the spring of 1963. In October 1963, the radome was inflated, and Antenna I was subsequently installed under the protective cover. The facility officially went into operation in April 1965.

Why did the radome have to be renovated?

In 2009, it was determined that the air-supported dome was at risk of collapsing at any moment. Furthermore, the building also suffered extensive damage to its ceilings and walls. Between 2010 and 2012, the identified damage was repaired by Radom Raisting GmbH, with the active support of numerous companies and financial support, including funds from the Federal Government, the Free State of Bavaria, and the Weilheim-Schongau district.

In winter 2020, the air envelope was destroyed by the extreme storm “Bianca” and replaced by a new air envelope in October 2021.
